Maude — The Discrete One

She knows who leaves their recycling bin out a day too long, who has a new gentleman caller, and exactly when the people at number 27 stopped speaking to one another.

Not because she’s nosy, of course.

Maude simply believes that a neighbourhood works best when someone is paying attention.

Most afternoons she can be found by the front window with a cup of tea going cold beside her, quietly surveying the comings and goings. She has an excellent memory for faces, an even better memory for indiscretions, and very strong opinions about people who park across two spaces.

Her rosy cheeks and tiny red lips make her look rather innocent.

They are misleading.
